The Penn State Baseball Club
About Us
Welcome to the official website of the Penn State Baseball Club. Since its founding in 1996 the club has provided the opportunity for hundreds of Penn State students to play in our fall league and allowed spring traveling team members to compete through the National Club Baseball Association. The spring traveling team competes in the NCBA in the North Atlantic Conference-West. The PSBC has won its region and reached the NCBA World Series eight times.
History
The Penn State Baseball Club has enriched the college experience of Penn State students for the past 15 years by providing an opportunity to continue playing our great American pastime. Founded in 1996, the club had an intercollegiate traveling team by 1997, and soon afterwards also began running a fall league at Penn State University. The fall league allows over 150 students to participate in organized baseball for two months every fall semester before culminating with the fall league playoffs.
After the fall league ends the Penn State Baseball Club holds tryouts in November for the spring teams. The spring teams (D1 & D2) compete against teams across the nation in the National Club Baseball Association (NCBA). The NCBA was founded by Sandy Sanderson, a PSBC alumnus, who has allowed the league to expand to well over 100 teams with a Division I league and a Division II league After the regular season conference play and regional tournaments across the entire league, the NCBA holds an 8-team World Series competition in Ft. Myers, FL.
The PSBC spring team has a history of regular season success in the NCBA, reaching the NCBA World Series in each of first 4 year's of the league's existence. However the club has yet to win a national championship. The team has reached the NCBA World Series 8 times, losing in 2006, 2008, and 2010 in the national title game. With a disappointing finish in 2011, the 2012 team looks forward to better success.

Joining the Club
If you are interested in trying out for our fall or spring teams, just check the homepage of the website around the appropriate times; additional information regarding the fall league is available under the "Fall League" tab. There will be details regarding the time and location of the tryouts and when different players should report. Our fall league, in which over 150 students participate, has tryouts in the beginning of September, typically after the 1st week of classes. When the league wraps up in late October, we hold an open tryout for the spring team in the Multi-sport facility. If you are transferring after the fall semester, contact one of the officers or coaches and we'll arrange a tryout in the beginning of the spring.
In addition to playing baseball throughout the fall and spring semesters, members of the PSBC participate in other activities on campus. In the past, the club has been active in Penn State Homecoming festivities, volunteered at THON, held socials with other student organizations, and organized tailgates and formals with our alumni. In the fall of 2005, the club sponsored a Distinguished Speakers Series lecture by baseball legend Cal Ripken, Jr. Many members of the team were able to briefly meet with Ripken, and two members of the club had an opportunity to attend a dinner with the Hall of Famer at the Nittany Lion Inn.
We also need help in other areas in addition to fall league and spring team members. The club has traditionally been coached by students, and with graduation and jobs taking them out of state college, we're always looking for volunteers to coach or help the team to victory. If you're interested in volunteering or helping out with the club, please contact one of the officials on the "Contact Us" page. The team is also responsible for fundraising; if you are interested in helping us out please check out the "Donations" tab.
