Game 1: 14-4 An 11-run explosion in the second inning hoisted PSBC to a 14-4 win in five innings over Syracuse on Saturday. State scored in the second on 7 RBI singles by Grayson Davis, Shane McMurtry, Darren McKee, Jack Titus, Brett Bernstein, Tanner Witter, and Cooper Redding. Pat Barder also had a 3 RBI double during that inning. Redding also went a perfect 2-2 at the dish to lead State to the W.
Mike Dunlap got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He allowed four runs over five innings. Dunlap struck out seven, walked three and gave up four hits.
Game 2: 10-2
The game was decided quickly as the squad exerted its will early with five runs in the first three innings.
A two-run double by Titus and an RBI single by Davis during the first inning helped PSBC D1 put some runs on the board early. McMurtry led the PSBC's offensive threat as he got on base three times in the game. He scored one run and had two RBIs. Shaemus Lunney recorded the win for PSBC D1. He allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six, walked two and surrendered seven hits. In relief, Erik Gretzmacher shut down Syracuse while he was on the hill, including getting out of a bases-loaded jam. Gretzmacher held Syracuse hitless over 1 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.
Game 3: 13-1 State took the series sweep in a one-sided victory on Sunday. Austin Thomas hummed 13 strikeouts in just 5 innings allowing 2 hits and no runs. Pat Barder and Tanner Witter both doubled in the 13-run affair with RBI's by Thomas, Bernstein, Barder, McMurtry, and Witter. Redding led the squad with 3 runs scored.
Matt McCarthy came in relief of 2 innings, striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 run on 1 hit.
State heads to Pittsburgh this weekend full throttle with the goal of taking at least 1 game in the 3 game series (2 of which were played 3 weeks ago).
