State Drops two to Syracuse
GAME 3 - State Over 'Cuse 14-1
PSBC piled up the runs on Sunday, scoring three runs in the seventh inning, en route to an easy 14-1 win over Syracuse. State scored six runs in the fifth a two-run single by Will Ziefel, an RBI single by Joe Picard, and a three-run double by Josh Castro. Castro racked up seven RBIs on three hits for the squad. Mike Dunlap's 11 strikeouts helped to push State past Syracuse. He allowed one earned run on six hits and one walk over six innings. State easily handled Syracuse pitching as six hitters combined for 15 hits, 14 RBIs and 12 runs scored.
GAME 2 - 'Cuse Brings Down State 6-3
Joe Picard did all he could to give PSBC a boost, but it wasn't enough to get past Syracuse, as State lost 6-3 in seven innings on Saturday. Picard paced the squad at the plate and went 1-4, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the first inning. State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. State brought home one run in the fourth inning, and matched that run total in the Fifth. In the fourth, PSBC scored on an RBI double by Darren McKee, plating Josh Castro. Syracuse never trailed after scoring three runs in the fifth on two solo blasts.
Game 1 - 'Cuse Over State 8-7
Castro went 2-4 and scored two runs. He singled in the first and seventh innings. The top of the first saw State take an early lead, 3-0. State added more runs when Picard and Castro scored on a two-run single by Dave Reitman.
Syracuse matched its two-run first inning with two more in the fourth. In the first, Syracuse scored on a two-run home run. It didn't take long for Syracuse to respond as it scored one run of its own in the sixth. Penn State scored one run in the top of the seventh to cut its deficit to one.
